The Lehman College/Bronx Institute GEAR UP program, in collaboration with the Education Department at the New York Botanical Garden, is an academically rigorous, in-depth and behind-the-scenes look at the four foundational pillars of the Garden - Science, Education, Horticulture, Ethnobotany. It is designed to give local High School freshmen an introduction to Genetics, Biochemistry, Plant Chemistry, and other sciences, using the resources of the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx River, and other local institutes. We are (ideally) looking for an Undergraduate or Graduate Student of the Natural Sciences and/or Education, to assist the lead instructor and facilitator. Duties will include preparation or materials before class, tandem teaching, accompanying the group on trips off Garden grounds, and occasionally guiding smaller groups or individuals on independent projects. Compensation is $15/hr. Classes will run 10am-2pm on Saturdays, with prep and clean-up the assistant`s hours will be 9am-3pm.
Program dates are:
Session 1 - Jan 9, 16, 23, 30, Feb 6, 27, Mar 6, 13, 20
Session 2 - April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, June 5, 12, 19
Session 3 - July 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 27-29.

2. Please describe your experience with children/students; your experiences at the NY Botanical Garden.
3. Please state why you would like to be a part of the Lehman College/Bronx Institute Program, and whether you are interested and available for one or all of the three sessions.
Applications of interest are being accepted now through January 2. Interviews will be scheduled for January 2-7 in mid-town or lower Manhattan, or at the Garden in the Bronx. The first class will be held January 9th 2010.
